Kickboxing with New Friends

My mom wanted me to get out and make some friends. So, she went out and looked for some meetings where there would be a lot of homeschoolers. Then, a mother of four (just like my mom) named Mary invited my mom over to a Zaabeel Park for some kickboxing.

When we arrived, we met Mary and her two daughters, Roni and Faith. The gathering was actually arranged by a church group. The church was called Victory. We felt very welcomed and at home because they were very friendly.

We did a round of warmup, starting with neck rotations then ending with heel rotations, and jogged 5 laps around the grass area. After all that, we started the kickbox "crash course."

We did a lot of burpees, "mountain climbing" and planking before starting the actual kickboxing. We were all very exhausted with just that, but that wasn't all.

What I learned about kickboxing is that it's good for self-defense for women. Actually, it's a good self defense for even men. If you're a left-handed kickboxer, you'd be called a South Paw. If you're right-handed, you'd be called Orthodox. A jab is a straight punch that doesn't neccesarily have to be strong whenever it is used. A power punch, however, is delivered using one's dominant hand, which would be the left hand for South paws and the right hand for Orthodox. Moving your hips is part of proper form when throwing punches.

We ended the session with a prayer, then left to continue roaming around the park or continue what was left in our Friday schedule. Overall, it was a fun, informative and and interesting experience since it was my first time to join a kickboxing class and make new friends at the same time.
